12 Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

I told a new mommy today,
"It goes so fast; enjoy every minute,"
All the while I was thinking in my mind how
the 3rd day of life sure doesn't feel like it.
The eating, crying, pooping, and questioning
 if your milk is "in" yet.
Never mind the sleep deprivation time warp,
where you suffer from amnesia and feel
like an alien has taken over your body.
Then moving on to the mounds
of laundry a new one can create,
it feels endless.
It's easy to wish away our time. If only he would sleep through
the night...eat solids....be potty-trained...go to preschool.
{BLINK}
He's surely 6 and having his first crush
on a freckled face little girl!
{BLINK}
His voice is changing and surly a teenager.
In place of his chubby dimpled hands grabbing my face to
land a sloppy kiss are sullen silences.
You long for the days you nursed or rocked him again.
The ability to enjoy our lives is a gift.

{Ecclesiastes 5:19}
19 Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—
this is a gift of God.

We can either speed up the time by focusing on tomorrow,
or we can savor the moments- the good, the bad and the mundane- by focusing on today
These may truly be the sweetest
moments of our lives.

5 min:
{Pray}
Lord please forgive me for wishing away my time, for focusing on what's hard about these years instead of savoring what's precious. Please teach me to number my days aright, to truly live my life and enjoy my children at each age and stage.
Continue to pray as the Spirit leads you,
or just sit quietly in God's presence.

10 Min:

So how do we savor these moments?
I read a post recently by Glennon Melton from Momastery.
She answered this question perfectly by describing the 2 types of time that we experience. I quote from her post on Huff Post Parents...
"There are two different types of time. Chronos time is what we live in. It's regular time, it's one minute at a time, it's staring down the clock till bedtime time, it's ten excruciating minutes in the Target line time, it's four screaming minutes in time out time, it's two hours till daddy gets home time. Chronos is the hard, slow passing time we parents often live in.

Then there's Kairos time. Kairos is God's time. It's time outside of time. It's metaphysical time. It's those magical moments in which time stands still. I have a few of those moments each day. And I cherish them.
Like when I actually stop what I'm doing and really look at Tish. I notice how perfectly smooth and brownish her skin is. I notice the perfect curves of her teeny elf mouth and her asianish brown eyes, and I breathe in her soft Tishy smell. In these moments, I see that her mouth is moving but I can't hear her because all I can think is -- This is the first time I've really seen Tish all day, and my God -- she is sobeautiful. Kairos."

Makes total since right!
We are always juggling so many hats that we are left trying to find the balance in our day.  If we can just find balance in our home and lives will the kairos moments occur more often?  I don't think so,  I think we will gain a different perspective to step  back and enjoy these moments. So below I have listed several key factors in {Balanced Living} that may help us to become better at {Numbering Our Days}.
